What a bummer from Obama

From FAQs about the Armenian Genocide:

Hundreds of thousands were butchered outright. Many others died of starvation, exhaustion, and epidemics which ravaged the concentration camps.

Not an item you’d find in our local MSM. If you did come across this story (below) in any of the papers, please do give us a buzz.

The news: Turkey succeeds in preventing the 1915 massacres of Armenians from being labelled ‘genocide’ by the US House of Representatives.

American President Barack Obama and US State Secretary Hillary Clinton were among those in the administration largely responsible for blocking Resolution 252 from being included in the official daily agenda of the House.

From the Washington Post:

WASHINGTON — U.S. lawmakers have avoided a diplomatic clash with important ally Turkey by deciding not to take up a resolution declaring the mass killings of Armenians early last century a genocide.

Supporters of the resolution made a push for approval in the final days of Congress, despite opposition from the Obama administration.

The measure was strongly opposed by Turkey and the administration feared it would have damaged relations with the NATO ally.

The House of Representatives ended its two-year term Wednesday without taking up the matter. It is unlikely to be passed when Republicans take control of the chamber in January because the new House speaker, John Boehner, opposes it.

What did the Turks do in 1915 that the country doesn’t want to own up to?

From Wikipedia:

“… the deliberate and systematic destruction of the Armenian population of the Ottoman empire during and just after WWI.”

It was implemented through wholesale massacres and forced marches under conditions designed to lead to the death of the deportees.

“The total number of resulting Armenian deaths is generally held to have been between one and one and a half million. Other ethnic groups were similarly attacked by the Ottoman Empire during this period, including Assyrians and Greeks, and some scholars consider those events to be part of the same policy of extermination”.

Tsk Tsk Tsk..Erdogan (Mahathir’s twin-freak) says it was a “response to anti-Turkish agression”
(a variant on the NRA’s dictum, “Turks themselves don’t commit genocide, scabres and rifles do..”)..

About the ONLY thing I agree with Nancy Pelosi on…this resolution should have been
passed long ago (as should the condemnation of the massacre of Darfurians by Fascist
    Slave Trader Sudan President Bashir).

OH WAIT, NOW I REMEMBER ! THE OIC BLOCKED THE MEASURE WHEN IT
CAME UP IN THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY SUBSTITUTING A VOICE VOTE
ON GAZA INSTEAD..(SUDANESE REFUGEES OBVIOUSLY BEING OF LITTLE
    CONSEQUENCE TO THE OIC).
