All quiet on the secular front: Why DAP/MCA are zipping lips

Among yesterday’s local headlines — ‘Custody goes to Muslim convert mother‘ in Penang (story not reported by Star Online at the time that we post this; In fact, Star archives do not have a single article on Tan Yi Min).

Among yesterday’s world top stories was the Pakistan governor shot dead by a Muslim fanatic.

ISLAMABAD: Salman Taseer, the flamboyant and high-profile Governor of Punjab, was gunned down here on Tuesday by one of his security guards.

The guard, Mumtaz Qadri of the Punjab Elite Force, yelled out ‘Allah-o-Akbar’ and emptied two magazines of an SMG on the governor in the Kohsar Market before surrendering himself.

He later explained that he had killed Mr Taseer because of his recent criticism of the blasphemy law. — ‘Blasphemy law claims another life

Salman Taseer was one of the most high-profile supporters of a Christian mother of five who has been sentenced to death under the blasphemy law by a court in  Punjab.

Salman Taseer has said that Aasia Bibi was wrongly accused of the crime [blasphemy] and dragged in the streets and gang raped.

He had said he would personally carry Aasia’s clemency request to the president.

The Jinnah Institute’s Board of Advisors and its President Sherry Rehman are amongst many who have appealed for a review of the case and a repeal of the Blasphemy Law. The Pope Benedict has also appealed for the release of Aasia Bibi (statement). In his weekly public address, Pope Benedict XVI said that Christians in Pakistan “are often victims of violence and discrimination” (Telegraph, BBC).

As international condemnation of Aasia Bibi’s sentencing continues to pour in, with human rights organization Amnesty International being the latest to ask for her sentence to be commuted along with a review of the Blasphemy Laws (Amnesty), Aasia Bibi has told human rights representatives that she has not had access to a lawyer throughout her trial. — Jinnah Institute

The now deceased Punjab governor was trying to uphold secularism (he criticized Pakistan’s blasphemy law that provides for the death penalty) to save the life of an unjustly persecuted Christian woman in the Islamic state.

As the killings and violence show — Salman was not the first to be assassinated over the current controversy — defending secularism is evidently a risky business.

The Chinese diaspora, particularly those  in Malaysia, are very afraid of anything that has even a whiff of danger.

Is that why the Star has never reported on Tan Min Yi? Is that why Lim Guan Eng is promoting Islamic caliphate?

There was previously one political party in Malaysia that dangerously professed it was secular. Today the party is trying hard to out-Islamize PAS and Umno.

    Hartal MSM:
Aiyoyo indeed. Confession: Actually, we stole the ubiquitous poster from Parpukari. The Caliph Umar Lim Abdul Aziz should indeed put his admirers out of their misery by making it official. Muhyiddin has challenged as much before. As for the recurrence, we’ll stop when LGE indicates that he’s willing to try to cure his Tourette’s.

And imagine, Pakistan’s Supreme Court is even MORE independent than Malaysia’s
(often ruling against the government of the day in Islamabad). NOW, THAT’S SCARY !

Why, on Earth, the sane and obviously competent Islamic courts in Malaysia would want to award a young
girl to a hard-working, loving and caring model father who raised his daughter by himself for three years
rather than an apathetic and disingenuous deadbeat convert mother who abandoned husband and daughter only to re-claim said daughter three years later in the name of Islamic quantity over quality, is simply beyond me.

Actions speak louder than words bro, they are competent.
