Normala’s wrist gloves & Eli Wong’s upskirt

Pix: Normala wears finger gloves. Under her long-sleeved baju kurung jubah, she wears yet another wrist glove.

Not an inch of skin can be glimpsed between the hem of her sleeve and the tips of her gloved fingers in the photo above of Tenang candidate Normala Sudirman.

She’s very conservative in her dressing. As a PAS candidate, she represents extreme conservatism in religious values. Of course Normala’s Queen Elizabeth-gloved pretensions are her own business, just like Elizabeth Wong wearing sarung to sleep is her own business too.

New media (like Malaysiakini) is very pro-Normala in their coverage, just like MSM is pro-establishment. Not only are the political parties fighting each other, the media are taking sides too.

Malaysiakini reported Malacca Chief Minister Ali Rustam on the campaign trail for the Umno by-election candidate, ‘Umno weighs in on PAS and Islam‘:

“This is already maksiat, she is liable to be whipped 100 times. She has brought shame to PAS, PKR and Pakatan Rakyat — this is all Nik Aziz’s fault,” he said, after launching a series of personal and sexual attacks on Wong.

So we have the PKR woman who’s Adun of Bukit Lanjan and the PAS woman who’s hoping to be Adun of Tenang — both poles apart. Yet their parties are sleeping together.

No, Eli as a non-Muslim is NOT liable to be whipped 100 times but the guy who took her upskirt photo — who’s not Eli’s muhrim — but having access to her home may indeed be liable to be jailed and fined if the Syariah Court presses a khalwat charge.

What do the non-Muslim Pakatan supporters want?

(1) The state to keep away from the personal affairs of citizens, or

(2) Religious enforcement authorities to poke their noses — such as into Eli Wong’s bedroom?

The fawning pro-Pakatan media have been tripping themselves over Normala.

They do not report on Normala’s fundamentalist stand with regard to morality issues — nor has Normala been asked by the Pakatan Chinese and Indian supporters about her ultra orthodox opinions, i.e. what is the position of non-Muslims who are partners in a morality crime?

Unless and until Malaysia is a SECULAR nation a la Turkey ~ 20 years ago (but not today),
it will never achieve its full potential..NEVER…..Islam (like any other religion) belongs
in the heart of the devotee and MUST BE ENTIRELY REMOVED FROM THE PUBLIC
SPHERE. Mark my words, if Malaysia continues on with this disingenuous political
game of ethnic and religious one-upmanship (mostly coming from Muslims and let’s
be blunt about ths), it will fail as a nation-state. The only way to achieve national unity
is to detach the concept of Malay identity from Islam; Malay identity must be defined
in cultural terms where Islam is one component of that identity but not it’s defining feature.
Otherwise, 1Malaysia simply means that non-Malays must integrate Islam into their
national consciousness while Malays simply acknowledge that non-Malays have
integrated Islam into their consciousness without any corresponding cultural, religious
and political reciprocity. This is why, I believe, you see Penang CM Lim Guan Eng showing
off his ostensible knowledge about Islam (I will not comment on his administrative
skils here) but showing very little knowledge about KEBUDAYAAN MELAYU itself
that pre-dates Islam. LGE’s transparent attempts at cultural harmony are purely political
in my estimation. This is why MCA head Chua Soi Lek warns Chinese about
the dangers of Islam in a crude us vs them fashion playing on the paranod fears
of Chinese voters WITHOUT explaning specifically which aspects of public Islam
are inimical to Malaysia’s success (e.g., apostasy laws, ambiguous syariah-civil
court mandates, unequal apportionment of building funds in favor of suraus
and mosques, etc.). CSL’s Islam-bashing is also, in a reversal to LGE’s approach,
a political ploy to divide Malaysians. The political debates between UMNO, PAS, DAP,
PKR and various independents has been, in my estimation, less mature than similar
political debates and contests exhibited by your average junior high school debate team,
far less so in fact. This does not bode well for Malaysia and its citizens.
