DurianFM is born

By Reina

There’s a new radio station in town and its called DurianFM. It’ll be officially launched on March 8 – this Tuesday. You can access it here.
The main man there is Jamaluddin Ibrahim. Remember him?
The popular 98.8FM DJ who was sacked by StarFM in September last year. 98.8 FM is one of three radio stations owned by StarFM, which comes under the MCA-controlled Star Publications (M) Bhd. The station’s chief executive officer Wong Lai Ngo was also sacked.
Mandarin-speaking Jamal was then hosting the highly popular “Say Hi to Malaysia” morning programme when he received a letter from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) saying his comments have affected national security and his comments on race relations were out of line.
Jamal is the son of former Malayan Communist Party (MCP) leaders Shamsiah Fakeh and Ibrahim Mohamad, Jamal spent much of his early life in China. Born in Beijing, his family was allowed to return to Malaysia in the mid-90s.
