NEWSFLASH!!! All 3 Indian Interlok Review Panelists Pull Out

by Eyes Wide Open

The Interlok Review Panel who were supposed to sanitise the novel for school consumption has collapsed.

All 3 Indian panellists — Sinar Harian deputy editor Uthaya Sankar, Professor NS Rajendran (Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris/UPSI) and G. Krishnabagawan (former Information Ministry official) — have withdrawn from the committee.

They pulled out after almost all their recommendations were refused after Muhyiddin intervened in the meeting.

Well, what do expect from the “Malay First” DPM?

But then, we heard from good authority that there were also many recommendations for the Malay and Chinese references to be sanitised – coming from the Malay and Chinese members of the panel.

Why no news of the rest of the panel resigning in protest?

Well, seeing who the other panel members are:

  • author Abdullah Hussain’s wife Datin Siti Saroja Basri,
  • Gapena secretary Profesor Datuk Zainal Abidin Borhan (the author’s brother is Gapena chief Tan Sri Ismail Hussain),
  • Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka director-general Datuk Termuzi Abdul Aziz (DBP is the publisher, how can he be non-partisan?), and
  • Assoc Prof Lim Swee Tin of UPM, who was earlier partly responsible in recommending Interlok as a textbook.

And the panel is headed by UKM’s Prof Shamsul Amri Baharuddin — the guy responsible for creating the controversial Ethnic Relations module for local public universities.

This panel is as establishment-friendly as it gets!
